The BJP Seems to be Talking More Directly About Muslim Appeasement by the Opposition

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the most dynamic political party in India today and definitely one of the most vibrant and dynamic political parties worldwide according to the latest political news.

Although identified as the political flag bearer of Hindutva, the top leadership of the party especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has been consciously avoiding use of the term Hindutva in their vocabulary to the extent possible.

Apparently, the party's top leadership has been trying to create the image of a centre right soft Hindutva party carrying the slogan, "Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas Aur Sabka Vishwas" meaning "Together With Everyone, Development for Everyone and Win the Trust of Everyone".

While this basic positioning of the BJP has not changed but in this election, the party has started saying things that a very large number of its supporters and voters wants to hear.

The latest news world reports show that BJP leaders including the prime minister himself, is now speaking of Hindu interests and priorities in the different public meetings.

Most remarkably, the prime minister's office (PMO) recently published a report on the population composition of the country highlighting the exponential growth of Muslim population in India against the negative growth of Hindu population.

Caste polarization and Muslim appeasement by Congress

Going by the latest political news, one of the main reasons for the BJP to speak out more openly about Hindu interests and priorities is to reassure its core vote bank that everything is fine.

Rahul Gandhi, the de facto leader of the Congress had said that if he becomes the prime minister, he will conduct a caste census. Most observers believe that this is a communist plan to take advantage of the social segments in Hindu society and wreck it from within.

Gandhi’s party has also been giving reservations to Muslims in the states where it is in power, which is unconstitutional. Gandhi’s mentor, Sam Pitroda, who recently resigned as the chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress had suggested that the government should take away 55% of inherited property. That became a controversy and Pitroda had to resign from his post.

In such a situation, there was no way the BJP was just going to sit and watch this sinister narrative being unloaded on the public. The party now seems to have taken a conscious decision to address its core Hindu vote bank more directly instead of simply talking about welfare of the nation in general terms.

BJP leaders freely expressing their Hindutva sentiments

The union home minister, Amit Shah at a recent election meeting said that the Congress wants to snatch away reservations from scheduled castes (SCs), scheduled tribes (STs) and other backward classes (OBCs) and give it to Muslims like they did in Karnataka.

As per the latest political news he assured the huge gathering listening to him that whenever the BJP returns to power in Karnataka, it will delegitimize the reservation given to Muslims as it is unconstitutional.

A woman BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Maharashtra, Navneet Rana, who had gone to Hyderabad to support the campaign of local BJP candidate, Madhavi Lata, brought up the issue of a particularly nasty remark by Akbaruddin Owaisi, the younger brother of sitting MP Asauddin Owaisi, a few years back.

Akbaruddin had then boasted, although foolishly that “Remove the police for 15 minutes and 25 crore Muslims of India will take care of 100 crore Hindus” or some such nonsense.

Addressing a huge rally in support of Madhavi Lata, Navneet Rana decided to remind Owaisi that “He is talking of 15 minutes...if the police is removed for just 15 seconds he and his types won’t even know where they came from or where they are going”.

Such statements were unheard of from BJP leaders in the past and that is why there never was a response to Akbaruddin’s outrageous statement before Navneet Rana gave it back to him in similar language this time. There are different other instances of BJP leaders responding to communally provocative statements by Muslim leaders and that seems to be a deliberate plan of the BJP to reassure its voters that the party’s priority is not just development and achievements but also priorities of Hindus.
